We love her more than Starbucks

>> Monday, June 21, 2010

One of the first things people ask us about the adoption is, "how much does it cost?"

When we first started looking into this I couldn't fathom how we would come up with the money. Then we slowly started looking at our finances and thinking of ways to save money in our daily lives. So here is a fun list of things we have (quite happily!) given up so that we can bring our daughter home to us:

Starbucks (those $4 drinks really add up)
XM radio in Jed's car
Movies ($40 for our family of four, no thanks)
Manicures, pedicures and massages (these occasional treats are now totally off limits)
Haircuts every six weeks (I am stretching it to every 4 months and dying my own hair)
Dining out (cut back to twice a month from 4-6 times a month)

The thing is, we don't miss any of it. Now that I have kicked my Starbucks habit I can't imagine going back to it. Jed doesn't miss his favorite '80's music on XM and has discovered some of our local radio stations.

She is so much more important than any of those things.

Totally agree! We have not ate out in almost 4 weeks. We have stopped buying any soda products and are finding more free fun for the summer.
We are giving up these things but are truly being blessed by it with our children already. Thankful to show them and teach them to set aside their own desires for another's well-being. May God bless your family on your journey!
